Ah, why is time flying by so quickly? Usually I am pretty on point when it comes to making timely travel reservations, but I just realized that we’re one month away from our Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, Phuket, and Singapore trip, and plans aren’t 100% set. Ah! As of now, I have hotels booked in all of the stops along our trip, except Hong Kong, which we will be spending our first 4 nights in.
I know Hong Kong is a very popular travel destination for many of my fellow points and miles fanatics, and I really have enjoyed reading the numerous trip reports from those who have visited. Does anyone have a stellar recommendation as to where to stay that’s in the $100/night range? Or… I guess I could part with some of my points. As of now, I have about 15K SPG points and about 50K Chase Ultimate Rewards points that could transfer to Hyatt that I’m willing to burn.
Where have you stayed when you visited HKG? What were some must-see attractions? I’m excited to learn about your travels to Hong Kong! :)

If you can afford to, pay for an stay at The Peninsula and you’ll understand why it’s regularly rated the best hotel in the world.
I know it’s not really an answer to your question but I cn barely afford it myself and would go back to HK just to pay for the room and stay there.

I live in SINgapore so I regularly go to HKG. Next to the aforementioned Peninsula is the Kowloon Hotel. It has a great location and is much closer to your target price.
In SIN, I recommend the Ibis hotels on Bencoolen St or Novena Sq as they are relatively new, quite contemporary, and affordable relative to other SIN hotels.

Thanks for all of the recommendations all!
@commander: I’d kill for the peninsula but theres no way I could afford a room there :( I’ll stop by and check it out though.
@worldtraveller2: I LOVE the W Hong Kong! Just tried to book that, but there’s no cash+points option booooo
@Lufthanasa, Samuel & Gene: I’ll look into those Hyatt properties now, thanks!
Hammer boy: LOL @ closet comment… I’ll check out Y.
JimINSin: I’ll check out Kowloon hotel, thank you. In Sin, I booked the Shertaon Towers for cash plus points for 2 nights… 4000 SPG points a night plus $60. Not too bad.

For Hong Kong look at the Hotel Cosmopolitan. Prepaid rates range from $92 for a basic room to $150 for a room with a view to kill for and free breakfast. I am going to Hong Kong in June and saved my points for Tokyo (even more expensive) and Pricelined the Hotel Cosmpolitan for $85 a night :-)

I lived in HK for 18 months
You will get better value a little further out e.g. The Emperor Happy Valley Hotel about a mile from the center or a several options in North Point about 3 miles from the center.
For something different then the usual tourist favs:
Check out the horse racing on Wednesdays evenings (big expat / local ) population.
Walk above the skyscrapers on Bowen Rd (majestic views)
Head out on a boat trip to the islands at Sai Kung
Hong Kong offers some the best hiking / views in the world (reachable minutes from the concrete jungle) – google “hiking hong kong highlights”

If you are on your own dime, right next to the Peninsula is the YMCA (really). The 8-10 floor building has a hotel on the top floors. Two blocks from the Star Ferry. Very nice, clean and modern. Got upgraded to a 1200 sq. ft. luxury suite; 150 degree floor to ceiling view of the harbor and the light show. Not sure I would recommend the dormitory on the lower floors.
