Sadly, today is our last day in Chicago, and in a few hours we will be en-route back to LGA (weather-permitting of course). We really had such a fun time exploring the city, taking advantage of Public Chicago’s $1 Sale (our 2 nights in Chicago cost as a grand total of $2.34, tax included!), and touring the brand-new Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel during our visit to the good ‘ole windy city. I look forward to sharing my trip reports, hotel reviews, and pictures with you, but in the meantime I need to keep this post short because we’re about to have lunch at the famous Chicago Diner (Allison is vegan, so she’ll be in heaven).
Here are some upcoming events I’ll be attending: Will you be at any or all of these too? If so, I’d love to meet some of you!
- NY Times Travel Show: March 3 & 4. I’ll be a media/press attendee tomorrow at the NY Times Travel Show at the Jacob Javitz center in Manhattan. I have not yet been to any of the previous NY Times Travel Shows, but I do look forward to seeing what it has to offer.
- Frequent Traveler University: April 27 – 29. I lucked out with this one; Frequent Traveler University is being held right in the same town I live in at the Sheraton in East Rutherford, NJ – just two miles from my apartment (yes, I plan on walking there). Registration is $99 and includes two full days of seminars, a Milepoint-sponsored cocktail hour on Friday, and 2 lunches on Saturday and Sunday. I’m really excited about this weekend!
- Chicago Seminars: October 12-14. Â Registration has officially opened up for this year’s Chicago Seminars that is taking place in Elks Grove, IL during the weekend of October 12-14. I attended last year and was blown away with how great it was. I’m sure I’ve said this a thousand times, but this event was the true seed of inspiration for starting this blog, and I highly recommend you attend if you want to be with a group of like-minded individuals who enjoy traveling with points and miles as much of you do. The sessions were extremely informative and fun, and I truly have learned an tremendous amount in such a short period of time. This event is surely not to be missed!

Im going to ask you the same question I asked to Mommy Points. Which event should I attend? (between Chicago and FTU). I have “studied” (blogs, articles and even the Nicholas Kralev book). But I don’t have many opportunities to earn miles (I live in Venezuela) and have redeemed them only once. But, I’ll move to Canada (Montreal) within two weeks. Do you think I could take advantage of the Chicago seminars or the FTU living in Canada? (where opportunities are not as generous as the ones in the US). And the main question remains: which one?

Hi Jorge, most certainly you can take advantage of mileage-earning opportunities living in Canada. In fact, Montreal is a great location because it is a major international city, which is ideal for a traveler :) As far as which to attend – I’d personally go to Chicago if I were you. The schedule of events/speakers are jam packed with opportunities to learn from the best in the industries. Of course, it boils down to your schedule and travel arrangements in the end, but that’s just my 2 cents. :)
