Over the holidays, Gilt announced a way to earn 1,500 bonus miles with United by making your first purchase over $50 with Gilt as a new member, then allowing you to earn 5 miles per dollar for a 6 month period after your initial purchase. To qualify for the 1500 bonus miles, you must register for your new account by visiting http://www.gilt.com/united.
For some of us, we were able to earn those 1,500 bonus miles with any purchase, before they increased the purchase minimum to $50, so it ended up being a great offer (I ended up buying a $10 restaurant voucher with free shipping to get my bonus miles; see related post here). If you avoided the $50 minimum spend offer on Gilt because you did not think 1500 United miles was an attractive spend-incentive (I don’t blame you), you may be in luck now.
This morning I stumbled across an interesting opportunity brought to us by Gilt.com and Klout. For those of you who are not familiar with Klout, let me briefly explain. Klout is a new platform that measures your “social influence” across various social media mediums such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, WordPress, YouTube. etc. Each person is given their own Klout score between 1 and 100. The higher your score, the more influential you are perceived online, and therefore can be offered various “perks” from companies and major brands. Below is a screen shot of my Klout score:
Gilt has teamed up for an interesting “perk” where your score determines your discount (up to 100% off!)Â on a specified sale date. The higher your score, the larger your discount. My Klout score is 55, meaning that I’d qualify for a 60% discount – not a bad incentive. 60% off already-reduced designer fashion items and a chance to rack-in some United miles sounds like a great deal for me! This Perk starts on Tuesday, March 6, will roll out in increments to users and is valid for a limited amount of time while supplies last. You can access the Perk by going to http://klout.com/#/perk/Gilt/Gilt.
Please refer to the full terms and conditions here. If you need a Klout invite, please follow me on Twitter, send me a tweet, and I’ll be happy to send you an invite for you to see what you score is (and discount tier!).
