National Emerald Club and I both have something very special in common – 25 years! I’ll be turning 25 in April, but why wait until next month to celebrate? Let’s have a little party right now with National Car Rental’s Emerald Club, who is celebrating their 25th anniversary this month, and is inviting us to celebrate with them!
In honor of their exciting milestone, National’s Emerald Club is having a “Blast From the Past” contest on their Facebook page, where you can share your photos, videos, and stories from 25 years ago for a chance to win a $25 Visa gift card. They’re also sponsoring this blog contest by providing me with 3 great prizes to give away to some lucky readers.
National offered me a “Go Like a Pro†gift basket (filled with a National tumbler, a National embossed leather writing pad, a National pen set, a weekend duffle bag and a driving kit) in exchange for running this contest on my blog, but I prefer to give this prize away to a reader instead.
In total there will be 3 prizes:
1 Grand Prize – The National “Go Like a Pro” gift basket, as described above
and
2 Runner-Up Prizes: $25 Visa Gift Card
Entering is simple, and there are two ways to do so:
1. Retweet or share your favorite Just Another Points Traveler blog post on Twitter.
2. Comment below sharing your favorite memory of 1987 – What were YOU doing 25 years ago? If you’re like me and weren’t born yet, then you can enter by sharing your first travel memory.
All winners will be chosen at random from the entry methods discussed above on Saturday, March 10 at 9 am EST. I’ll be choosing 1 random $25 gift card runner-up winner from the Twitter retweets/shares. The grand prize and 2nd $25 Visa gift card winners will be chosen from the comment stories below. One comment entry and one Twitter entry per person please.
Good luck & I look forward to traveling back in time with you!

In 1987 I took my first plane flight as an “adult”, JFK-LAX, then LAX-PHL return. The 6pm flight out of JFK didn’t board until around 10pm, making our arrival at LAX in the wee hours of the morning. The return flight to PHL stopped at JFK where we had a MX and sat on the tarmac for 3 hours. It’s only gotten better since then.

1987 was a very good year for me and the first year that enabled me to begin my travel journeys…
I earned my drivers license that year and began regular road trips in my sporty 1978 Datsun 280Z. It was small, two seat coupe, with very little room for luggage, let alone passengers… but that didn’t stop me.
That car travelled all over the east coast and Canada and back in the day, I was even able to cross the border with passengers stuffed in the truck — try that today!!
The car was sold a few years later, as I couldn’t fit a refrigerator in it (commutes to college) but was replaced with a better travel car, a beat up 4 wheel drive Subaru wagon.
Sure, air travel gets us there faster, but travel by car (or motorcyle ) is really the best way to travel as doing so allows us to slow down, see the scenery and meet the locals along the less traveled side roads…
David says
First trip to Disney World! I was 4.
