NCAA March Madness in Portland: Hotel Edition

March 16, 2012 by Angelina Aucello 3 Comments

Hello from Portland, Oregon! So far Dad and I are having a blast exploring all of the uniqueness (and rain) Portland has to offer during our mileage-run mini vacation. I’ll keep this post short and sweet because we only have a few more hours left before heading home tomorrow, but I wanted to share a little bit of coincidence that made me chuckle.

As you may or may not know, the NCAA March Madness is going on right now in Portland.  I’m certainly the last person someone would call a basketball fan (or any sports fan, really), but I definitely got a kick out of seeing the two teams playing right now – New Mexico State vs Indiana, and here’s why:

Last night, we stayed at Marriott’s Courtyard Portland Center City, which was hosting the entire New Mexico State team. Tonight, we impulsively decided to stay at SPG’s The Nine’s, which happens to be hosting Indiana’s team. From what we saw, both hotels are extremely supportive of their respective teams, which is clearly evident by seeing the dozens of team banners displayed throughout the hotels, and the staff proudly wearing their team shirts and colors.

Since I’m the last person to call a basketball fan, it’s more fun to see this as a battle of the two hotels. Battle’s on: Marriott VS SPG. For those like me who also do not follow basketball, I’m sure you’ll know who won in the end anyway because I’ll be posting the winning team’s hotel review first.

Who do you think will win tonight’s game? Will it be New Mexico State, with a home away from home at the Marriott Courtyard Portland Center City or will it be Indiana who is staying here with us at The Nine’s tonight?

The Nines is a wonderful property. I stayed with an SPG Plat and we were well treated and given a pretty great room.

While at The Nines go to the Urban Farmer for happy hour. Great selections of wine and cheese. Enjoy!
