Hello from Hong Kong! I see Dad has taken over the blog a bit while Kevin and I have been vacationing in Asia. So far we’ve explored Hong Kong and Macau, and now we’re killing some time in Cathay Pacific’s Business Class Lounge as we wait for our flight to Bangkok. It’s time to catch up on some points and miles!
Starting April 9, American Express and the U.S. Travel Association have partnered to offer “Daily Getaways” from April 9 – May 11. Every weekday from April 9 – May 11, 2012, you can purchase a featured “getaway” at deeply-discounted prices. Even better is that if you make your purchase with an American Express card, you can receive an additional 10% off.
The first offer, starting April 9, is 10,000 IHG Priority Club points for $67 ($60.30 using an American Express card).
To get early access to the pre-sale from noon to 1 PM, you can “like” IHG on Facebook where you will be given a special entry code to the pre-sale.
As far as the value of these points, as always, it varies based on your loyalty, travel plans, and hotel preference… but do know that Priority Club has just released a new list of “point breaks” where you can reserve a room for 5,000 points. You may find the complete list of the current Priority Club Point Breaks here.
Will you take part in this offer on April 9? Do you think 10,000 points for $60.30 is a good value for you? Please do share your thoughts on this offer.

That’s about what they’re worth. In case you didn’t notice, they’re also selling blocks of 40K and 25K for the same price per point (about $0.0067 cents without Amex) next Monday. You can buy up to 5 of any single “item” and up to 20 combined total “items” in the promo.
So if you really wanted to, you could purchase 500K PC points for $3015 using an Amex. But that would be up to 20 nights at Intercontinental properties still going for 25K per night

@ArizonaGuy: Thanks for sharing! Personally, I haven’t given IHG properties much thought at all lately… and to be honest, I can’t even say I’ve stayed at a PC property in the past year… partially due to the fact that I have been focusing on rates/redemptions that best suit my travel plans as they arise; I’ve been finding myself using Carlson points, SPG, and Hyatt for the most part lately.
I don’t have many PC points to begin with LOL, so at the moment, I can’t decide if I’ll jump on this offer or not… but I definitely love hearing feedback from others and how it makes sense to them. thanks again!

Of course you do not need to do this to purchase points at that price point.
You can buy all the points you wish at $60 per 10,000, as long as you have at least 5000 points in your Priority Club account, but making and cancelling cash and points reservations :)

If you want PC Plat status without taking out the credit card, then this is a good deal. Cheaper than their current but points promo and about what PC charges using cash + points.
If you do not have any PC points, this ads additional diversification to your portfolio.
