Chase Matched Me to the 30,000 Freedom

May 13, 2012 by Angelina Aucello 19 Comments

You probably remember that about a month ago, I decided to add two more Chase personal cards to my wallet – The Chase Freedom Visa and Hyatt Credit Card (related post). I was eying the Freedom Card for some time, but I was naturally waiting for the best sign-up bonus. I ended up biting the bullet and applying with the 20,000 Ultimate Rewards points offer because I was getting impatient and really wanted to start using the card in conjunction with my Sapphire Preferred Visa. I knew that Chase was pretty flexible when it came to matching a better offer if one should come your way within 90 days of approval, so I felt pretty confident about my decision.

Well… a few days ago, I was hearing news on some of the forums that a 30,000 Ultimate Rewards Freedom card was currently active and available to phone applicants only. I quickly called Chase on Friday evening and politely asked if I could be matched to the 30,000 point offer that was currently valid. The agent confirmed that yes, this 30,000 sign-up bonus was still valid (as of yesterday), but would require me to provide a specific offer code in order to match me. I guess Chase is taking a harder stance when it comes to matching to a better offer now, because all three agents I spoke to also asked me for a specific invitation code, and they wouldn’t budge when I tried to go around that. Me being me, I was determined to find it.

Long story short, I came across a valid 30,000 point invitation code, and the agent told me my 30,000 Ultimate Rewards sign up bonus should post within 4-6 weeks (usually 2 billing cycles). Great! This was the 2nd time I was able to successfully match myself to the highest available offer with Chase. I’m happy!

Moral of the story: you never know until you try. If you’ve already applied (or are planning to apply) for the Chase Freedom card with a lower offer, than it might be worth it to make the call. YMMV, but like everything else in life, you’ll never know until you try!

Happy points collecting & please feel free to share your success stories too!

I just sent a secure message to Chase for the better 30k offer (this was for my brother under the 20k offer). They replied back with: “We appreciate your interest in the Chase Freedom bonus points offer. Unfortunately we are unable to honor the request and I apologize for any confusion. The 30,000 bonus points offer is no longer available as it is not an active offer. Please know that we will consider reviewing the terms of other offers you receive in the future.”

So it looks like this offer might be over, but not 100% sure. This was done via secure message and not a phone, so maybe better luck with a phone call.
