Via The Points Guy: Here’s an easy 500 United miles if you feel comfortable syncing your Visa card to their new mobile offers platform.
I registered my Chase Sapphire Card to the program, and the whole process took about 3 minutes. Once the miles post, I plan on opting-out of these offers because the thought of 10 messages a month seems annoying to me, LOL.
Two ways to opt-out:
- Send a text message with the words “STOP†to 81825 or reply with “STOP†to any text message you may receive from MileagePlus mobile offer.
- Visit https://rtm.visa.com/MileagePlus to manually unsubscribe your enrolled mobile number.
T&C:
- Offer valid only for MileagePlus® members currently residing in the 50 United States (including Alaska and Hawaii).
- To receive the 500 bonus award miles, members must successfully register by entering their MileagePlus member number, eligible Visa card number and mobile number.
- Register anytime on or between May 21, 2012 and Oct. 21, 2012.
- The registration period will conclude at 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2012.
- This offer is combinable only with other combinable MileagePlus offers.
- A member can register up to three eligible Visa cards per MileagePlus member number but can only earn the 500 bonus award miles one time.
- Please allow 6-8 weeks after registration for posting of the 500 bonus award miles. The 500 bonus award miles will be posted to the MileagePlus account entered at time of registration.
- Miles accrued, awards issued and bonus offers are subject to the rules of the MileagePlus program. The MileagePlus program, including accruals, awards and bonus mile offers is subject to change without notice. United and MileagePlus are registered service marks. The cost of those text messages could mount up when pinged traveling internationally.

10 messages a month costs me $2. Not to mention the three confirmation messages. So that’s $2.60. 500 miles is worth at most $10. (Of course, I refuse to sign up for a texting plan because 1. It costs the companies less than a penny to actually process it and 2. I have never sent or received more than 50 messages a month, and the cheapest plan is $10.)

I have signed up for texting bonuses before (i.e. the one by hilton) but this one seems a bit too “big brother is watching” for me. Kathy – http://www.willrunformiles.com

And it doesn’t work with Google Voice numbers which offer free texting.
