I Just Booked 2 Free Nights in Malaysia

October 11, 2012 by Angelina Aucello 13 Comments

A few hours ago, I posted about Accor/ibis hotel’s new 888 free rooms promotion. Well the good news is, it works! It’s currently 10 am there, and the free rooms have been released for select dates during the promotional period. I was able to book one night for myself and one night using Kevin’s account. Looks like we’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Malaysia!

I thought you were spending Thanksgiving in Istanbul? Did I make that up?

Well, I understand it was free but Ibis is a very low end hotel chain from Accor. I have been to KL couple times and you can get an amazing room at the Mandarin Oriental next to the Petronas Towers for $129. If you want to try very high end hotels for very cheap rates, KL is the place.

The hotel is only $33 that night. And way out in the suburbs. The excellent and central Sheraton is 3000 SPG points.

@Becky & Deals: We ended up canceling Istanbul (luckily for free due to many schedule changes) because Mom was uneasy about going after the current events.

@Tim/Santastico: I’ll be in Asia for the majority of the year anyway, so I’ll see what happens… nothing to lose :)

I don’t understand what the times are you need to book. What are the 3 times in PST? Can I book for February 2013?

@Angelina: I have a trip booked to Istanbul as well and I was also considering not going. I’ve noticed my itinerary has also had many schedule changes, how do you go about getting this canceled/refunded?

Those visiting KL and plan or ‘forced’ to hire a cab there should read this first… KL cabbies living up to ‘worst taxi drivers in the world’ reputation… http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/10/7/nation/12137997&sec=nation

@Nick; you can call the airlines and explain them that the schedule change is not convenient for you and the only option you see I’d to cancel the ticket. Most airlines have certain rules aboyt change by X hours, but you can always find a agent or supervisor who will do it for you at no cost..

@Murtuza: Thanks! I’ll give that a shot. I booked through Orbitz and its actually on a few different carriers (Air Canada, Swiss and United), would I call Orbitz in this situation or do I have to call each airline individually?

@Zzzzz: KL is so cheap that you won’t break the bank if you hire a hotel car so you don’t need to deal with taxi drivers. I always book a hotel car from and to the airport and they are new, clean and not that expensive. I am surpised that Malaysian’s taxi drivers beat the Thai’s on the award of ” worst in the world taxi drivers”. Bangkok taxi drivers are the worst you can get.

Meh. That’s about 35 minutes from anything of interest in KL (visit the Islamic Museum for interesting works), and decent hotels aren’t expensive in KL.
