It looks like I escaped NJ in the nick of time. My 3 PM flight to LAX yesterday was one of the last flights that was able to leave EWR due to storm #2. My heart goes out to those families who have lost power yet again. On a side note, I am here in LAX in preparation for my first-ever MegaDo starting on Sunday – which reminds me that the remainder of the year seems to be packed with so many exciting points and miles events (formal and informal). Here’s what I’ll be attending & feel free to join us if you’re in the area:
- StarMegaDo4 – November 11-17: The ultimate frequent flyer event of the year that sold out in merely minutes, the StarMegaDo4, is just a few days away, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ll be participating in both the TATL portion and the domestic charter.
- The FunZoneDo Fredericksburg, VA– November 20: In the words of Jeff The Wanderer: “Back in early October, many of us gathered in Chicago at a weekend of events for the miles and points obsessed. Anyone who has been to one of these events knows that some of the best parts of the weekend are the evenings spent chatting it up and networking with the other attendees. During one of these networking moments, I overheard/took part in a conversation between a couple of people you may know from the blogs they write at Mile Value and New Girl in the Air. As the conversation progressed, I was sure I heard them talking about a place called “Fun Zone” and getting together before Thanksgiving. I later found out that “Fun Zone” is really a place called Splitsville, and although I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t actually called Fun Zone, we went on to decide that maybe we should actually plan an event. Mostly via twitter, we have pieced a few things together and this is what we have so far:
We will be meeting at 6:30 PM at a restaurant yet to be determined in the Fredericksburg area. Then at 8 PM, we will move over to Splitsville, where we will have a lane (or 2 or 3) reserved for us. If you have never heard of Splitsville, you should check out their website at www.splitsvillelanes.com. It looks awesome! We will bowl and chat for a couple of hours, and then see where the night goes. Maybe to the bar at Splitsville, maybe to a bar somewhere else, maybe to Singapore (if we can find enough last minute award seats). It will be fun. It will be awesome. It will be epic. It will be the world’s first Fun Zone DO. What began as a joke one night at the Chicago Seminars has now become the most anticipated Frequent Flyer event of November 20th. (at least for those of us in the DC area) I guess the moral of the story is that you should never joke around with this group. We are crazy. What starts as a joke has an excellent chance of actually happening, whether it is a mileage run to the other side of the world, or a few drinks at a bowling alley in the middle of Virginia. So if you are in the area, or if you need a few more elite qualifying miles before the end of the year, join us for a night of fun that is sure to include bowling, eating, drinks, and a whole lot of miles and points talk.” - Frequent Traveler University LAX – November 30-December 2: Whether you’re a new or old player in the points and miles game, there’s always room to learn more and meet some pretty amazing people in the process. I love going to weekend points and miles seminars, and for $99 you can’t beat being in an environment with some of the most influential people in the industry. Take a look at the complete line-up of speakers and event schedule here.
- Frequent Traveler University DC/VA area – April 26-28: Can’t make it out to California this year? Don’t worry – the program will be returning to the east coast at the Hilton McClean Tyson Corner in Tysons Corner, VA. Tickets are on sale now for the early planners.
I’m hoping I can meet as many of you guys as possible during this fun line-up of events! Who’s in?

I guess I’ll meet ya at FTULAX. Enjoy LA while you’re here, too bad it rained today (we needed it after Monday’s heat wave, crazy weather week).
Jeff The Wanderer says
YAY! I’m in for the Fun Zone DO, but I guess people probably figured that out already. I will also be at the FTU in DC next April. Looking forward to the fun.

I can’t believe the FunZone DO is actually happening. I was standing there when it came up and thought it was a joke haha
Jordan says
This Fun Zone DO is too much, but I’d love to join. There actually is a place called Fun Land in Fredericksburg, maybe some late night laser tag!
Jeff The Wanderer says
Joke? There is no joking when it comes to DO’s. Can we put you down for attending?
Angelina says
Hahaha Scott’s been trying to sell us on the laser tag idea forever. I’m down!! See you there, Jordan!

Darn! I wish I could head down to the Fun Zone DO but trying to beat the traffic out of DC for Thanksgiving. I hope this will lead to more DC area DOs! I would be glad to help organize in the future. :)
