As the end of the year nears, it’s time to start considering the progress of our elite status for next year. With American Airlines’ AATHX double EQM until December 31 promo code, and the elite rewards promotion (registration required), American Airlines really makes it enticing and easy to pursue status for 2013 for existing elites. Earlier in the year, I was able to successfully match my United MileagePlus Premier Silver status to AAdvantage Gold, and I’ve really enjoyed the benefits of the status, along with American Airlines’ superb customer service, so I’m definitely on the path to re-qualifying for next year.
Aside from the generous double EQM offer, If you reach the specified elite-qualifying points goal, as outlined below, by the end of 2012, you will receive an email at the end of January 2013 inviting you to choose your special reward(s). Qualification is determined based on the number of elite-qualifying points (EQP) rather than elite-qualifying miles (EQM).  Points are earned based on a combination of miles/the purchased fare class, so deeply discounted fares will earn half as many points than the more expensive/flexible fare counterparts.
In order to receive your choice of a reward, you’ll have to register for Elite Rewards by December 15, 2012, using the promotion code ELTA2. I plan on choosing the 15,000 AAdvantage bonus miles if/once I re-qualify.
Worth It?
Of course it is, especially if you already fly plenty with AA. While it may not be as easy to earn EQP than EQM, it still is a nice bonus to look forward to if you can reach the threshold.
