UPDATE: There are many scenarios/routing options to get from JFK to EZE with these fares. My example below is for flights operated by LAN metal (One World) and Star Alliance miles can not be earned on the itinerary. Regardless, $300 for a RT to Argentina is still an amazing fare. I’ll update this post with other itinerary options for opportunities to earn Star Alliance mileage.
I tried to get to bed by 8:00 pm today knowing that I had to be at work at 3:15 am tomorrow morning, but now it’s time to come to terms with the fact that sleep is definitely not in the cards. I was abruptly awoken by the sound of an exciting phone call from MileCollector telling me that JFK-EZE flights were pricing out at just pennies over $300 for travel between March 1 – June 30 of next year.
The Flight Deal blogged about this great find on TAM airlines (bookable on Orbitz), and with fares this low, I can imagine that this deal will not last long. Most of the dates are pricing out at $386 round trip, but if you book segment-by-segment and don’t mind spending a lot of time in the air, then you can bring it down to $300.22.
Here’s a sample itinerary:
Besides getting to see a new city at an incredible price, the best thing about it all is the mileage! The total round trip will net you ~12,000 miles, and since TAM is a partner with United and a member of the Star Alliance, yes, this fare will earn 100% mileage with United – a perfect way to get your mileage runs in earlier on in the year! Don’t forget that US citizens will have to pay a $160 entry fee due upon arrival in Argentina.
So who’s coming to Argentina with me? For those who are taking part in this deal, when are you going? For those who have been to Buenos Aires before, what are some “must do” activities/attractions that you’d recommend for a short 3-day trip? I’m excited!

You’re not going to earn any UA EQMs on the JFK-SCL flight operated by LAN. And I’m not sure if you can earn AA points on it because it is marketed by TAM which is not a partner either. Be careful with earning rules!

Those flights in your screenshot (JFK-SCL and SCL-GRU) are actually LAN flights with TAM codeshares on them. I don’t think they’ll earn UA miles if it’s a LAN metal.

that’s a lot of time spent in Y…… have fun!!
AK says
And no AA miles if it’s a TAM code on LAN metal (on AA, the CODE is what matters, on UA, the METAL is what matters).
And no *A benefits when flying LAN metal.

Thanks guys, post updated. Still a $300 RT flight to Argentina is an amazing deal, however, I’ll update the post with itineraries to earn mileage as well! :)

There were several JJ-coded and operated options for ~$396 r/t in V and Q class (100% PQM on UA) between JFK-EZE available circa 2 hours ago. I saw some limited availability in May, again on JJ-coded and operated flights. So this might still be a good deal for Star Alliance flyers.
JJ-operated, LA-coded segments often earn AA EQMs but I’ve never seen LA-operated and JJ-coded segments being treated the same.

That is an awesome price to get to Argentina.

Some of us already have the 10-year Argentina Visa, so it’s cheaper.
progapanda says
@Randal, a 10-year visa for such a spectacular country is a pretty good deal for $160 IMO!

I haven’t been able to find anything sub $800, guess I shouldn’t have turned off my computer early last night….

These kind of deals depend on how much you value your time. You could spend $300 but you travel for 55(!) hours and have pretty terrible arrival and departure times.
Alternatively a RT non-stop ticket costs $800 for 21 hours of travel time.
$500/34 hours = $14.71/hour
Spending the $800 is a no-brainer for me… and you would presumably save a vacation day from work

Flight booked for April. Lets go!

BA is an amazing place to eat. I have many places to recommend and will post here later. Country is going through huge political instability and it is not very safe at this time. Be careful out there.
