Today’s eBay daily deal features a $50 Marriott gift card for $40 with free shipping. This is a great way to save 20% off of future Marriott stays. You can make this especially lucrative if you consider tying this offer with these ideas:
- Call Marriott’s Customer Support Center to request a free Platinum Elite challenge. Platinum perks include: 50% bonus points, lounge access/free breakfast, late check out, and free wifi. You can maintain the Platinum status for two years if you complete 9 stays within 3 months of initiating the challenge.
- Book your stay by using TopCashBack -or- Mr.Rebates to receive 3% back with Marriott. I’ve tested this method before, and yes, you do receive the cash back even if you pay for your stay with a gift card at the hotel front desk.
- If you’re a AAA member, you can save on average, 10% off the rack rate, so be sure to display AAA rates when searching for your room.
- Be sure to register and take advantage of Marriott’s MegaBonus promotion (stay two nights, get a free night certificate).
Dad has been a Marriott loyalist/Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card holder for 20+ years, and is also in the process of reaching his 9-night-platinum challenge, so without a doubt, I bet he will be purchasing his share of these gift cards!

fyi, you can get up to 20% back in the form of Amazon gift cards when you book a Priority Club hotel from plink.com (you have to sign up for plink first). There’s also a promotion for $50 back after one stay at a Candlewood / Staybridge Suites (or two stays at a Holiday Inn), so a theoretical maximum of 70% off night if you combine the two.

Note that this is a TravelCard, which has different restrictions than a GiftCard. TravelCards technically cannot be used for group rates (including AAA)….though in practice it works most of the time without problems. They also technically ban points earning, though again….in reality you will likely earn points.
And yes…this deal is sold out.

Angelina, while I’m will use Topcashback or Ebates when bookign Marriott and paying with a gift card I won’t do it otherwise. If you book using the Ultimate Rewards (UR) portal you can get 3 extra UR points per $ spent a Marriott. When you combine it with the 2 UR points you get because hotels are in the travel category which earns double points, that is 5 points per $. That beats even the Marriott card in value because UR points transfer 1 to 1 to Mileageplus which is the most valuable travel currency.

Unless you’re actually traveling a lot, putting out any extra cash for a platinum challenge is probably not worth it. You don’t get any extra upgrades.
