I’m not sure if this is targeted or not, but it seems that United might be following the path of American and offering elite bonuses. I just received an email from United asking me to choose my reward – up to 50,000 bonus miles or 4 regional upgrades:
I just successfully registered and chose the bonus miles option. The only potential caveat is that if you take a look at the qualifying fare classes, you’ll see that only first, business, and select full-fare economy tickets qualify (F, A, P, J, C, D, Z, P, Y, B, M, E, U, H).
Ticketing dates prior to August 15 will not qualify, and travel must be completed by November 15. Although this promotion comes with quite a few restrictions and limitations, it was still a nice and unexpected surprise from United. Were you also targeted?
Speaking of airline promotions – American Airlines currently has a pretty ah-may-zing [non-targeted]Â elite fast-track promotion for non-elites (like me!) that grants you elite status all the way up until February 2015! All you have to do is fly between 6,000 – 30,000 miles during the promotional period and register before August 27. It’s an incredibly generous promotion that I hope all readers jump on. Hey – it may be worth it for me to mileage run for this! (HT: AAdvantage Geek).

Doh…. I already booked my upcoming AMS-USA trip on UA. This would have given me instant platinum status :(.
Might have to do a MR when Us rates drop in the fall

United is a targeted offer tried but wouldn’t not accept my registration… also, the first term in the terms in condition says that only original recipients are eligible

The United is nice, but unfortunately it is targeted.

This AA offer means: “Screw you loyal customers!!!! We will make it easier for tons of people that never flew AA to become elite and compete with you that has being a loyal customer for many years for upgrades, seat assignments, etc…”. In my case I am a lifetime Gold with AA and if I want to become Executive Platinum I have to fly 100K miles. Too bad I am a loyal customer.

I was not qualified for the UA promotion, so I believe it is a targeted promotion.
Harold says
@ Santastico: Yes, it totally screws the loyal AA flyers up!!
Aptraveler says
Your UA promotion was targeted, this is what I got: “We’re sorry, The MileagePlus® number entered is not eligible for this promotion.”
But thanks for sharing!
Charles says
I think the H fare (minimum) with UA is still expensive.

Caught off guard by the AA promo. I just
recently paid $240 to complete the Platinum

Registered for AA promo! Too bad I don’t have any flight plans with them. But I guess I will have to now!

AA promo – where do I go to enter the promo code and register? Or do I have to book a flight by August 27 in order to use that promo code? The hyperlink above does not work for me?
Cogswell says
How much more do full-fare economy tickets cost over discounted ones? If you are only getting 10k United miles for a RT, I can’t imagine it’s often worth paying the full-fare

Yes, they pulled this offer b4 the end of the day. I have heard of people (especailly if you have some status with united, even Silver-thought MAriott? YMMV), and are very complmentary about the direction their airline is going in (basically sucking up to them) them MAY target you personlly. Don’t expect EQM, it’s going to (I assume) EQPoints. If you don’t know the difference find out. it’s important. It is worth it to get his amazing offer, if you can.
