Miles in a Minute: 100K Credit Card Offer, RadioShack Free Money, Hotel Deals and Promos

January 28, 2014 by Angelina Aucello 5 Comments

Happy Tuesday everyone!

  • There’s an incredible credit card offer that surfaced today - Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard (not an affiliate link) offers 100,000 miles after spending $10,000 in 3 months. When applying, leave the referral code, and airport code boxes blank. The $450 annual fee is not waived, but the card does come with $200 in statement credits and Admirals Club lounge membership. Even though I feel slightly overwhelmed with the amount of credit cards I have at the moment, I went ahead and applied because it’s like buying 110K miles for $250!
  • Free Money Alert: Scrounge up your junky old electronics! RadioShack has a great promotion whereby you can exchange old gadgets (in working condition) for $5 a pop in the form of a RadioShack gift card ($25 maximum per person). I had the most ancient BlackBerry ever (from 2007), along with 4 pairs of old airplane and dollar-store headsets that I brought in. You can use your $25 RadioShack gift card to purchase a $25 Amazon Kindle gift card and load it to your Amazon account to use as a normal gift card. If you don’t have anything to trade in, you can, in theory, buy $1 headsets at the dollar store and trade them in – your call. The whole process took me about 10 minutes, and the store does record your drivers license information in their system. Gather up your crew and head to your local RadioShack and jump-start your spring cleaning!
  • United devaluation day is quickly approaching on February 1. If you’re thinking of booking a premium-service partner award, now would be the time to book under the lower, old rates.
  • Southwest announced its upcoming new routes to Aruba, Montego Bay, and Nassau. Head on over to Deals We Like for the full scoop.
  • Starwood hotels is introducing keyless mobile check in.
  • Radisson is having a promotion whereby you can save 30% when you book select Radisson hotels by February 10, 2014 and during specific dates between February 21, 2014 and May 3, 2014. The promo code for this sale is 30PCTOFF.
  • The complete list of the new IHG PointBreaks hotels is out and bookable for just 5,000 points a night
  • A few days are left to get $20 off your first Uber ride – the new-member referral bonus offer has been extended until 1/31. What that means is that you and I will both receive $20 in free credit if you join using my referral link.
  • Rocketmiles (the hotel booking site that pays out airline miles for hotel bookings) is offering 3,000 bonus United miles on your first booking for new customers. This offer is valid until February 28, 2014, and you must complete the hotel stay by July 1, 2014.  It appears this stacks with the new member bonus of 1,000 miles that is available via my referral link.
  • The NYC Reach for the Miles meet up is happening on February 5. Unfortunately, I will not be joining the social scene until late March/early April, but if you are in the NYC area, it’s definitely a fun night out to socialize with other travelers!
  • Don’t forget to claim your 100 free Hyatt points – mine posted almost instantaneously!
  • Are you still remembering to take your daily spin in SPG’s spin-to-win game?
  • Last week’s winner of the Hyatt suite upgrade was reader Joey M. I have already reached out to him; Congrats Joey!
  • Lastly, I’ve got a ton of free 6-month AwardWallet coupon codes to pass along. They are valid for one-time use only, so leave a comment below letting others know which one you’ve used. Enjoy!

Speaking of great bonus offers my family comes from a long line of vanity bloodlines which causes our cosmetic bills to be at times a bit gaudy……..we need your advice at how to max out a cosmetic shopping portal/event or even what to look for?

Re: the Radio Shack offer, YMMV – the store I went to was happy to take the junk I brought in but insisted in reviewing the fine print on the offer they had by the register – and according to that, you can’t use the GC for an Aamzon Kindle gift card – or any other gift card. I am hoping to try another RS store where perhaps the clerks are less aware of the T & Cs.

On the upside, they asked me what carrier I used for my cell phone and said that if I was willing to allow them to see if I qualified for an upgrade, they’d email me a coupon worth $5. It took about a minute to make another five bucks.

I very much appreciate the BA bloggers who so graciously share free upgrade codes to Award Wallet, etc. And I’m happy for the twenty (20) folks who beat me (and probably others)to the punch to benefit from Angelina’s generosity…but would those of you who do so at least be considerate enough to post a message letting the rest of us know you have claimed one of the codes (as Angelina herself requests)? Thanks!
