Last week, the Godfather of frequent flyer miles himself (and founder of BoardingArea), Randy Peterson, extended an invite to all BoardingaArea bloggers to think about a nice face-to-face visit by popping into the House of Miles in Colorado Springs. Yes, there is an actual HQ building called the House of Miles, and it’s located on “Frequent Flyer Point”. I felt like I was visiting CandyLand for the points-obsessed.
I took the invite as an opportunity to immediately search for flights to Denver, and I was surprised to find a nice round trip from LGA-DEN on United for just $240 – with five days’ notice. A price that low was hard to resist, so I immediately snatched it up. I was even able to apply a $100 United gift card to my ticket, making the total out-of-pocket cost $140. The best part of it all was I had confirmed complimentary premier upgrades on both segments. I knew I was going to have a blast.
When I landed in Denver, as I was hopping off the plane, I booked myself a room at the new Holiday Inn Express in Colorado Springs, and I also booked the cheapest rental car I could find using carrentalsavers.com.
In no time, I was off to Colorado Springs, and I arrived just in time for lunch. After lunch, I had a chance to sit down for some quality one-on-one time time with Randy, and we discussed some exciting [very near-future] developments including a complete redesign of the BoardingArea.com homepage as well as another entirely new blogging platform that’s soon to be launched.
I then had the opportunity to sit with each and every member of the BoardingArea team (minus Karen, I missed you – and yes, I will mail you pics of Baby Points Traveler ASAP) and strategize with them using their expertise. What I am most excited about is the new layout that JAPT is long overdue for. Here’s a sample snippet of what I think, is something that better showcases my personality on the blog:
Despite my tire blow-out fiasco on my rental car (resolution still in the works… will keep you posted), I really had an amazing time connecting with the entire BoardingArea team. I even was sent home with a mini goody-bag and this token:
I am still smiling ear-to-ear from my visit. There’s truly nothing more joyful to me than a quick spontaneous getaway to a land far, far away. Being in the air is truly my version of a “spa day”. Until next time!
