Super Cheap & Just About Free Hotel Rooms with Roomer

November 24, 2014 by Angelina Aucello 10 Comments

Has anyone used Roomer before? I haven’t, so I can’t vouch for it myself, but I’ve always been a curious lurker. Today, I received an interesting email from extreme hotel deals alerting me of a chance to receive a $25 credit when referred by a friend with an existing account.

Of course I was intrigued, so I signed up to see exactly what it was all about.

For those who are unfamiliar with Roomer, it is a place where other travelers can sell their unused and nonrefundable hotel reservations when their plans have changed. If you’re open-minded to a limited list of hotels and fixed travel dates, there are some great opportunities to score a room for up to 90% off.

After signing up, I spent a minute browsing. Here’s a sample of what I found for an upcoming reservation in Cambridge at the Le Meridien this weekend – $25 a night!

a screenshot of a phoneWith the $25 credit, you can stay 3 nights for $50! Not a bad deal! I don’t think this room will be on the market very long.

If you’re interested in joining, here’s my link. Feel free to post your link in the comments for a referral conga.

Let me know what you find! Would love to hear about other peoples’ experiences as well!

Interesting. Used your referral link Angelina.

The obvious question that I don’t see answered in any of their FAQs is how status with the chain is handled, and whether you get credit for the stay? I would assume not, but it seems possible given that they contact the hotel and actually change the reservation to be in your name, but the original reservation might have been through a portal and …

Okay, so I asked this question to their support as follows:

“If I book a room at a chain thru roomer, will that stay count towards my status with that chain? Can I add my frequent renter number with the chain to my reservation somehow so I might get upgraded, etc? Normally this isn’t possible via third-party sites, but I have no idea how this works with rooomer.”

and got this not very well written and quite unclear reply:

      ” Hello Glenn,

Thank you for contacting Roomer Travel.

For the mean time, Roomer does not offer upgrades taken from renter numbers or memberships. However, you can check with the hotel and see if they can offer you with upgrades.

      Warm regards,

      Aljohn,
      Customer Experience Team ”

From my initial exposure to the site I was kind of interested. Based on their support? Not so much. Feels like an Indian tech support person with limited command of English. Not so much the tech startup I was thinking it was.
