I’m headed to St Lucia soon on board my favorite first class product – JetBlue Mint. So far, I’ve experienced Mint twice – once from Los Angeles to New York and most recently from New York to Aruba.
I am really excited to be visiting St. Lucia for the first time, and I have to admit that the trip was entirely inspired by an unexpected JetBlue fare sale last month -$284 each way (or 17,800 points). Keep in mind it really is an incredible deal, since most Mint seats to the Caribbean start at $599 one way (often exceeding over $1000 each way).
One of my favorite features of JetBlue Mosaic status is the “be fee free” benefit, which means Mosaic members will never have to pay a change or cancellation fee, no matter what. For some bizarre and unknown reason, I decided to check flight prices today and was in disbelief when I saw there were 2 seats selling for even cheaper – at $249 a piece (or 16,700 points).
Without hesitation, I decided it was worth a shot to call JetBlue to see if I could rebook my outbound at the cheaper rate and get the difference in points refunded.Sure enough, the call lasted less than 5 minutes, and soon I had 2,200 back in my TrueBlue account.
Even better is that I will get 10% of my total redeemed points back just for being JetBlue Plus Card member!
Bottom Line
2,200 points may not seem like much, but for 5-minutes of my time it was worth making the adjustment. With each TrueBlue point valued at ~1.4 cents each, 2,200 points is worth around $30.
Have you ever went out of your way to make an adjustment to a previously-booked award ticket when there were points left on the table?
