Have a Virgin America Account? Don’t Forget to Claim 10,000 Alaska Miles for Everyone in Your Family

January 26, 2017 by Angelina Aucello 2 Comments

Earlier this month, Alaska Airlines surprised those with an existing MileagePlan account and a Virgin America Elevate account with a bonus of 10,000 miles. They even extended a status match as well to those who had existing status with Virgin America.

Some people found out about the surprise miles when then logged into their accounts, and others received emails.

Those who did NOT have an existing Mileage Plan with Alaska Airlines, but had a Virgin America Elevate account prior to December 5, 2016, later received emails with an invitation to activate their new accounts and choose a welcome bonus of either $100 towards an Alaska Airlines flight or 10,000 miles.a blue airplane tail with a face on the tail a green and white textThe good thing in my case was the fact that I created Virgin America accounts for everyone in my family, including my toddlers, back when Virgin America had the generous refer-a-friend promotion. I also status-matched my JetBlue Mosaic status to Elevate Gold.

I received my welcome email a little over a week ago, and my daughter’s welcome email was found in my junk folder (and then poof- it was gone after 24 hours); however, I couldn’t locate activation emails for my husband and son, even though they definitely had Virgin America accounts before December 2016.

I sent an email to Mileage.Plan@AlaskaAir.com with the names, birthdays, and Virgin America accounts of everyone in my family. Within a few days, I received a response from an awesome rep who had set up all of the accounts for me for everyone in my household- including the 10,000-mile bonus for each of them. She even linked my kids’ accounts to mine.

40,000 free Alaska Airlines miles for this household is definitely a win.

Bottom Line

You have until then end of the month to claim your 10,000 miles (or $100 discount) if you had a Virgin America Elevate account. If you (or anyone in your household) hasn’t received the activation email yet, a quick email to Mileage Plan will solve the problem!

Thanks for the reminder! I’ve been putting it off because I don’t know if I’ll be able to use the $100 credit by October or not.
