For a while, there was a way to earn a small amount of Marriott Rewards points just by engaging on Twitter and Instagram through #MRPoints. While free points are always appreciated, it wasn’t a very lucrative way to boost your balances, since the annual earning potential was capped at only 2,500 points per account.
Well, there’s good news today! Not only is the program changing from #MRPoints to the new name of #RewardsPoints, the annual earning potential is increasing to a whopping 45,000 Marriott Rewards points annually!
To start, you can earn a total of 750 points for connecting your Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts to your Marriott Rewards account, and 250 points for following Marriott Rewards on Twitter and Instagram.
There will be 3-4 new campaigns launched each month to earn more points by engaging using your connected social channels. While #RewardsPoints is only available for members of Marriott Rewards, if your account is linked with SPG (which is incentivized through this program), you can transfer points interchangeably as often as you like.
I don’t know exactly how much effort it would take to earn a full 45,000 Marriott Rewards points through #RewardsPoints in a year, but it certainly seems like an easy way to earn some extra points, especially if you’re close to topping off your balance to make a redemption.
Also, don’t forget that if you have Marriott Gold elite status or higher, you’re able to transfer up to 50,000 Marriott points per year into another account. Starwood members can transfer points into another account if they share the same household address. One of the best Marriott redemptions out there is the nights and flights packages, which my family used last year for the most amazing sweet-spot redemption ever.
What are your thoughts? Will you connect your social channels?

Seems very hard to get twitter to reconnect or unfollow and follow to get these points. It always errors out when it asks for my account number, etc. weird.

I know it’s pure laziness on my part, but years ago, I had an AMEX offer that didn’t sync right via twitter and that soured me in terms of time and effort spent. That said, I really want to meet someone who works for the social media group at one of these companies and hear about their job and day. Can you imagine what it would be like?
