Starting today, November 6th through December 11, you can transfer hotel points into Aeroplan Miles and a 30% bonus. You’ll have to transfer a mininum of 5,000 converted miles in order to be eligible to receive the 30% bonus.
Over the summer, Aeroplan had a similar promotion, offering a 35% bonus (highest ever), and redeeming for Marriott nights and flights package triggered the bonus. This time around, Marriott packages are not eligible (major bummer).
Direct transfers from Membership Rewards points into Aeroplan do not generate a bonus, so a great way to take advantage of this promotion is by transferring Starwood or Marriott points into Aeroplan miles. While the transfer between Starpoints and Aeroplan miles are not instant, as long as the transfer is initiated by December 11, the bonus will post to your account (the terms state the bonus miles will credit in 4-6 weeks).
The bonus also stacks with Starwood’s 5,000 mile bonus when transferring 20,000 points into airline miles. With the two bonuses, 20,000 Starpoints will generate 32,500 Aeroplan miles. Aeroplan only charges 70,000 Aeroplan miles each way for Lufthansa First Class between the US and Europe.
The only way to accumulate Starpoints is by staying at SPG properties or by using the co-branded credit card, such as the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express.
Bottom Line
Overall, I still think this is a great promotion, but I’m bummed that Marriott nights and flights packages do not qualify this time around.
What are your thoughts? Will you convert hotel points into Aeroplan miles to take advantage of the 30 transfer bonus?
