Marriott Credit Cards Remove Annual Fee for First Year

January 26, 2018 by Angelina Aucello 3 Comments

There seems to be a lot of exciting news surrounding the Marriott Rewards credit cards lately. We already know that new cobranded credit cards are in the pipeline in 2018 for Marriott/Starwood, and they will be issued by both Chase and American Express (including new premium products).

Additionally, the Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card recently got even more valuable with its new introduction of Chase Visa Offers, too.

As another improvement, the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card and Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card will be waiving annual fees for new cardmembers during their first year.

Along with the fee waiver, both cards offer sign-up bonus of 75,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months from account opening and a free night on your account anniversary every year.

Bottom Line

It’s great to see the enhancements, and a strong offer. The Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card has been a staple hotel credit card in my wallet for years, and I find it worth it to pay the annual fee each year just for the free night benefit.

So I just signed up for the 80,000 + $99 fee card on Monday. Do you think they’d let me switch?

Patrick, I would definitely give Chase a call and see what they have to say. YMMV but I’d say there’s a good chance. Please keep us posted :)

I thought Marriott already waived the fee for the first year. Guess I was wrong. That makes the sign-up bonus for the former version of the card so much less valuable, imo. Glad I didn’t get it.
