Last December, United introduced “Mile Playâ€, a new way to earn miles with United MileagePlus®, allowing select members to earn bonus miles by completing “tasks”. There’s currently a Mile Play promotion happening until May 13, 2018.
United launched a similar promotion, this time called “Runway”, where targeted accounts can earn bonus miles based on the amount of money spent on United flights through July 31, 2018. As you can imagine, the offers vary greatly.
Keep in mind that you’ll have to first register by July 17, and only airfare purchased after the time you register will count towards the promotion. You can check to see if your account was targeted and register here.
Unfortunately my account does not qualify for this promotion, but a few family members received offers like this:
Bottom Line
Overall, I think this is a nice surprise if you had some United travel in the pipeline over the next few months.
Of course, registering ASAP is key as only trips purchased after registering will count. In regards to the offer received in my household, I think earning 21,800 bonus miles (worth over $400) is a generous return on $1000 spend.
Were you targeted? If so, what was your offer?

Hey quick question…I was targeted to spend $700 and get 21K miles by 31 JUL. Can I ticket a PNR that has two people on it, myself and my wife, and meet the spend? Or does it have to be me personally?

Hi! Unfortunately, it has to be just for you personally. That’s a nice offer though!

Awesome, thanks for the quick response! I just booked myself a quasi “mileage run,” going EWR-SFO in transcon to experience the Polaris lounge and then will come back w Jet Blue to try Mint…A true AV Geek weekend that, to be honest, my wife won’t be too happy about :)
Thanks again

I know! That’s why I was thinking UA on the outbound. Now my problem is getting to $700…They’re all either ~$678 or $1600. Trying to get creative over here…
