Wyndham Rewards Ends Auctions in Preparation of a New Experiential Platform

May 24, 2018 by Angelina Aucello 2 Comments

Rarely do I ever encourage people to redeem points and miles on “thingsâ€, but sometimes you can find an amazing experience at such an incredible value.

For example, I recently redeemed 4,000 of my own United miles for a pair of VIP front row tickets to the Stars in the Alley Broadway showcase in Times Square that’s happening next week.

Aside from the show, the tickets even include a brunch for two at Sardis before the show and a United gift bag. It’s actually a redemption I’m excited about since a group of friends also got in on tickets as well.

Last fall, I blogged about how some of the Wyndham “Experience” Auctions were a good use of points. In most cases, those experiences offered a much better value than redeeming for just one free night in the entire Wyndham portfolio.

Unfortunately, I just received word of small change to the Wyndham Rewards program, specifically: the winding down of the auction platform as Wyndham Rewards prepares for the launch of a new experiential platform later this year.

Wyndham Rewards will officially bid farewell to Wyndham Rewards auctions on Friday, June 29th at noon ET.

The good news is that members may continue place bids on existing auctions through June 24, 2018 and take advantage of Redeem Now opportunities through June 29th at 8 a.m. ET

There are quite a few auctions and flat-rate redemptions still available if you’re interesting in redeeming your points a unique travel or fun experience:

The even better news is that this change only affects Wyndham Rewards auctions and none of the other redemption opportunities like free hotel nights.

Wyndham revamped their program for the better 3 years ago by introducing free nights with a flat 15,000 point redemption rate, along with other positive loyalty program changes. You can even use your Wyndham Rewards points at Total Rewards casino properties too.

Bottom Line

There has always been some interesting and exciting value in redeeming Wyndham Rewards points for experiences, and I’m curious to what’s in store for the new platform announcement coming in the later months.

Have you ever used your Wyndham Rewards points for anything other than free nights?

Looks like Wyndham didn’t launch their new experiences platform last year, after all. You have any contacts that could give any insight if it will happen this year? I’m sitting on a bunch of wyndham points.
