I’ve been an American Express Card Member in good standing for over 10 years. In the past, I’ve had various travel friends tell me they’ve been surprised by “appreciation gifts” from American Express from time-to-time. The gifts usually seemed to pop up during the holidays and ranged from gift cards to AmEx restaurants and merchants, such as DryBar (I had serious envy) to physical items like gift baskets. Until today, I was never a recipient.
As I was going through my mail, I noticed an envelope from American Express in what seemed feel like a thicker card stock than the typical targeted credit card and extended payment offers I’m used to receiving.
The back of the envelope read, “In appreciation of your Card Membership, here’s an exclusive gift for you”.
I excitedly opened it up and saw a $100 gift card to TheRealReal store in New York City. As you may know, TheRealReal started out as a luxury consignment store, and there are frequently AmEx Offers for additional savings. I’ve purchased (and blogged about)Â plenty of nice things online in the past on TheRealReal.com, but I have never visited the NYC physical location before.
There is no minimum purchase requirement attached to the $100 gift, and it’s valid until mid-November. I’m hoping I can stack this with an AmEx offer if my purchase exceeds $100. Either way, this is a great excuse to do a little shopping!
Bottom Line
While I have no idea how the American Express appreciation gifts are determined (spend? location? purchase behavior?), I think it’s a super cool initiative that surely goes a long way.
Have you ever received an AmEx appreciation gift in the past? Did you get one this round? If so, please feel free to share what you’ve gotten!
