Great news and a surprise improvement from United! United Airlines announced that starting today (effective immediately), more than 100 channels of live DIRECTV will now be free on 211 Boeing 737 United aircraft equipped with seat back TV.
Prior today, DIRECTV on United flights was complimentary in United First ® and available for purchase in United Economy ® for $5.99 on flights two hours or less and $7.99 on flights over two hours (don’t forget that the United Explorer Card allows you to save 25% on purchases made inflight)
Even with the multi-seat and/or credit card discount, purchasing TV on multiple seat backs adds up quickly for traveling families!
In addition to offering free live DIRECTV, United customers still also have access to more than 280 complimentary movies and TV shows available on personal devices via the United app.
Bottom Line
It’s nice to see that United is up to speed with JetBlue in offering free TV entertainment on its flights. Up next, I’d love to see free inflight messaging on United flights soon!
What are your thoughts on this news? What other improvements do you hope to see on future United flights?
