Today, IHG Rewards Club launched new 4X Promotion, with the ability to earn 4X bonus points after your fourth stay.
In order to qualify for the bonus points, you’ll have to register and book by December 15th and complete stays through January 31st 2020.
The earning structure is as follows:
- 1st stay = 1,000 Bonus points
- 2nd stay = 2X Bonus points
- 3rd stay = 3X Bonus points
- 4th stay plus = 4X Bonus points
Earning Potential
Most IHG Hotels typically generate 10 points per dollar just for being an IHG Rewards Member. You can take a look at the earnings-chart below to point out some of the IHG brands that are an exception:
To put this promotion into perspective, let’s use my recent stay at the new Kimpton Arras in Asheville as an example:
I booked an AAA rate of $194.56, which earned me 15 points per dollar (10 points per dollar on Kimpton spend, and a 50% bonus for being an IHG Rewards Club Platinum member), generating a total of 2920 points for my stay.
Hypothetically assuming this was my 4th stay during the 4X promotional period, I’d generate 4x that amount, 60 points per dollar (assuming 10 points per dollar times 4 + a 50% Platinum elite bonus) for a total of 11,680 points.
I value IHG Rewards points conservatively at 1/2 cent each, so the return in points on that single night stay I used for my example would roughly look like $58.40, which is extremely generous.
To take it a step further, if you have a cobranded IHG credit card such as the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card which gets you an additional 10 points per dollar on all spend at IHG hotels and resorts, you’re looking at potentially earning 70X points per dollar after your 4th stay.
Of course, don’t forget to take advantage of lucrative IHG cash back portal opportunities every time you make an IHG booking (such as 10X Membership Rewards on IHG bookings made today through Rakuten, formally eBates).
Bottom Line
If I’m interpreting this 4X promotion correctly, there is some serious value if you’re able to reach at least 4 stays during the promotional period. YMMV.
