I always go out of my way each quarter to earn 7,500 points by maximizing the rotating 5% quarterly bonus categories with my Chase Freedom card. Chase is really being extra generous this year!
It was just recently announced that beginning on November 23, you’ll be able earn 10% back (10x) on purchases made at Amazon.com, Zappos.com, Audible.com, and Diapers.com. The best thing about the promotion is that your $1,500 spend threshold automatically resets on November 23.
What that means is that you can potentially earn up to 22,500 points by maxing out the 5x from October 1 – November 22 and then the 10x from November 23 – December 31.
What a great perk for a no-annual fee card and earns points that are transferable to many travel partners like United, Hyatt, Southwest, etc. when paired with a premium Ultimate Rewards card such as the Sapphire Preferred.
Yesterday, I noticed that I was no where near my $1,500 limit at Amazon.com, so I went ahead and purchased myself a $1,250 Amazon gift card, before my spending threshold resets.
I know $1,250 sounds steep, but with 2 babies, sooo much of my household spend goes to Amazon as it is.
Once November 23 rolls along, I’ll have until December 31 to spend yet another $1,500 and earn 10x!
To put the earnings into perspective, here’s how I see it:
I am interested in staying at the brand-new Hyatt Ziva Cancun, that just opened days ago. Even with the 50%-off grand-opening sales, room rates are in the high $500 range. Instead of paying, I can simply redeem 25,000 Hyatt points (an Ultimate Rewards transfer partner) per night at the hotel. With that strategy, I am am getting a value of more than 2 cents per-point.
If you haven’t maximized your quarterly bonus yet, consider buying an Amazon gift card like I did ASAP, before November 23, so that you can maximize your potential earnings.
How are you maximizing this awesome promo?

Just FYI, you can buy Amazon GC all year round at 5x with the chase ink cards through gyft when paying through PayPal. However, with the 10x bonus I’ll definitely be putting spend on my freedom cards!

You can buy Amazon at gyft with ink for 5x.? How’s it coded? Office supply?
Jacky says
Did you buy those gift cards with teddy bear or card holder?
Firm Doc says
What Ryan says. You might as well get the faux wallet or teddy bear if you’re dropping $$ on Amazon cards. Just look for the Amazon gift card that comes with a free teddy bear ($150) or free faux wallet ($100). I can say from experience that they look great next to the stash of hotel soaps and shampoos we all have shoved in drawers and closets. By the way, my co-worker ran out of candy on Halloween and started giving out hotel sewing kits and bath gel.

I’m 750 short of maxing the 5% for the quarter. I picked up $600 in Raley’s GC’s, and would do more if Amazon allowed it. Can’t justify another 750 when I have no plans for it. Tomorrow I’ll purchase a bunch of Xmas gifts purchases for $1500 to max the 10.
Jason d says
Is Raley’s gift cards on Amazon?
Paul says
Yep
Jason d says
Thanks that matter can any gift card be bought on Amazon ? I see all kinds of cards besides Amazon gift cards
Jason Davis says
I think I would of not spent the $1250 on the 5x offer but that’s me. I have 5x on my ink chase year round. However I would of dropped the $1250 for the 10x offer or even $1500 which I may do for the special offer. Otherwise you got to spend another $1500 after you dropped $1250. Unless you are fortunate to drop that kind if dough two months in a row.

I’m wondering if the 10x is targeted? I have not received any notification and still see 5% under my Freedom account
Paul says
You have to search it and activate it. It is not automatically applied to your account.
