Quickies: 300 Free LaQuinta Returns Points & 500 Bonus SPG Points for Declining Cleaning

March 17, 2012 by Angelina Aucello 11 Comments

300 Free La Quinta Returns Points: Register for the La Quinta Returns newsletter and instantly receive 300 La Quinta Returns points. These might help towards a US Airways Grand Slam “hit” if the promotion returns for 2012 (related post about my 2011 grand slam experience).

500 Extra SPG Points for Declining Cleaning: During my recent stay at a Starwood property, The Nines in Portland, I noticed that they’re offering rewards for guests in favor of conservation. As you can see in the note left on my bed, you can now earn a bonus of 500 SPG points per stay when you ask to participate in this conservation effort. Next time you’re at a Starwood property, be sure to contact guest services to see if they participate in this promotion.

I had the same problem. I went ahead and reset my password and then it seemed to work out fine for me! :)

As much as I love SPG points, should we, the travel public, help facilitate a plan that is surely aimed at encouraging a hotel to lay off hard working staff? I say no.

After reviewing last years grand slam, I didn’t see any way of converting hotel points to miles for La Quinta, only to stay at La Quinta, so not sure how this could be a hit, but it never hurts to get a few free points.

@PSL – So should we the traveling public leave our room is a disgusting state so it takes the maids longer to clean thus increasing their pay?

@PSL.I don’t believe it is SPG intent to layoff cleaning staff, then they would have to hire front desk help to input SPG numbers.

@Mike H. – I believe housekeepers are expected to clean an assigned number of rooms during their shift, no matter how sparkling clean or disgustingly dirty they may be.
