Headed to Turkey for Turkey Day

June 1, 2012 by Angelina Aucello 13 Comments

The past few days have been nice and relaxing for me. My girlfriend Nikki invited me to spend a few days with her down at her shore house in celebration of her 30th birthday. So far we’ve enjoyed sunny and quiet beach days, fun BBQs, a fun night at a tiki beach bar, and I even got a nice base tan for Hawaii next week!

I apologize for the lack of updates, but ironically I promised Nikki I’d totally disconnect and enjoy myself down here, so I’ll keep this post brief, but I couldn’t help myself from sharing my excitement about a new trip in the works!

On a more exciting note, we booked a family trip to Istanbul for Thanksgiving week! United and Delta have a pretty nice sale going on at the moment – $525 ai for a round-trip, nonstop flight between EWR and Istanbul valid on select dates between October-December. I even had a United 10% off coupon that a friend passed along to me that brought my fare down to $505 ai. This will be our family’s first Thanksgiving away from home, and we were long overdue for a full family getaway, so it will definitely be a fun trip that I’m looking forward to!

Who else will I be seeing in Istanbul this fall?

Not because I’m biased (I’m Turkish), but Istanbul is probably the most beautiful city in the world. Enjoy.

I know that all you bloggers want to stay for free somewhere, but in the case of Istanbul, you’ll definitely want to stay in the Sultanahmet area. It is near most of the attractions and you’ll save on cabs/travel time. The hotels are mostly not chains and they have tons of character. If you need a recommendation, let me know.

We’re also headed to Turkey for Turkey Day, $523 from JFK and minus a recent bump voucher! Now I don’t supposed turkey meat is easy to find in IST!? ;) Maybe we’ll pack some turkey jerky, lol

There are some wonderful little hotels down by the Blue Mosque. Time to get back.

Never found Istanbul nor Turkey very intriguing. Thought about getting that ticket but can’t quite see what I would do there.

Turkey is a very interesting country but Istanbul was quite underwhelming to me… I’ve never understood what the big deal was about it. There are much more interesting places to visit around the country.
