PointsHound is a hotel booking engine that allows you to earn airline miles for hotel nights. While I normally tend to pass up these opportunities and book directly with hotels for stay credits and points, this offer may be too good for some to pass up.
Flying Blue members can earn up to 12,000 extra bonus miles by booking a hotel room on PointsHound for 2 nights or more by October 15, 2016!
Of course, the real way to maximize this promotion is to book the cheapest possible room, but as always, that only makes sense if you actually have a use for the room, right?
Naturally I checked rates in Asia, and they were low, but since I am not headed to Asia any time soon, I decided to check rates at a place I frequent often as a Jersey girl… Atlantic City.
To my surprise, I found super reasonable rates across the board, but I chose Harrahs because it was the cheapest casino property.
The only caveat is that like most casino properties, Harrah’s collects a resort fee, which is due at the hotel (such a scam, right?), but still – 2 hotel nights that I may actually use for under $100 + 12,000 Flying Blue miles, which is almost enough for a flight to Hawaii or the Caribbean, is a really good deal.
While Air France sells 12,000 Flying Blue miles for 330 Euro (!!lol!!), I personally value each mile at 1 cent per point at the very minimum (~$120 at bare minimum), since they expire in 18 months.
So What Awards Can You Book With Flying Blue Miles?
- Awards between North America and the Caribbean/Central America cost 15,000 miles + ~$25 in taxes on Delta flights.
- Another great value redemption are award flights between North America and Hawaii for 15,000 miles plus nominal taxes.
Flying Blue is also a transfer partner of Citi Thank You Points and American Express Membership Rewards at a 1:1 ratio if you need to top off your balance for an award.
Bottom Line
I definitely think this promotion is lucrative if you have a need for a cheap hotel stay in mind. It’s not exactly mattress run worthy in my eyes (but for some it may be), but it’s like almost getting a “free flight” (subject to award availability of course) in addition to your stay.
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion?

I have verified that all Flying Blue accounts qualify for this promotion.
DD says
How did you verified that since the offer for normal member is just extra 3000 miles?
