Up to 40% off United Saver Awards to Hawaii & Ski Destinations

December 21, 2018 by Angelina Aucello Leave a Comment

For two days only, United is offering an impressive award sale to Hawaii and ski destinations. Roundtrip tickets start at 12,000 award miles plus taxes and fees from $11.20, and the discount is based off of MileagePlus Premier Status and/or if you’re a Chase MileagePlus cardholder.

Awards must be booked in United Economy® by December 22, 2018, for travel between January 9, 2019, and March 6, 2019.

Hawaii destinations include: Honolulu (HNL), Maui (OGG), Lihue-Kauai (LIH), Kona (KOA), Hilo (ITO)

Ski destinations (valid for itineraries less than 700 miles each way) include: Aspen (ASE), Bozeman (BZN), Vail (EGE), Gunnison/Crested Butte (GUC), Hayden (HDN), Jackson Hole (JAC), Montrose (MTJ), Sun Valley/Hailey (SUN), Mammoth (MMH)

A round trip award to Hawaii in economy using United miles is regularly 45,000 miles. I priced out a sample Newark to Honolulu round trip itinerary (as a Premier 1K member without the MileagePlus credit card) for 31,500 miles, which is a 30% savings:

Keep in mind that for some, this might not be the best use of miles, especially if you’re on the west coast. Some other great redemptions to Hawaii in other programs are:

East Coast

  • Korean Air Miles (On Delta): 25,000 miles roundtrip in economy/45,000 roundtrip in first
  • Singapore Miles (on United): 17,500 miles each way in economy/30,000 each way in flatbed first class (other notes: best availability, no close-in fees)
  • Air France Miles (on Delta): 15,000 miles one way in economy/30,000 one way in first

West Coast

  • Avios (on American or Alaska): 12,500 Avios one way in economy (no close-in fees)

Moving to ski destinations, a round trip saver award between Los Angeles and Aspen is normally 25,000 miles. I priced out a sample round trip itinerary (as a Premier 1K member without the MileagePlus credit card) for just 17,500 miles (or $320), which is a 30% savings:

Bottom Line

Of course, a savings to Hawaii or a ski destination you had in mind is a nice surprise this holiday season. I’ll further dig into possibilities that might be intriguing for my family travel plans as well.

Does this discount come in handy for anyone? Let us know what great redemptions you find!
