[Update]: Some people are reporting that they have been able to take advantage of this deal more than once (Amazon gift cards excluded for the second time around – but third party gift cards seem to be working just fine!).
Happy 4th! Amazon is offering 20% off when you use as little as 1 American Express Membership Rewards point to pay for a portion your purchase.
To maximize this offer offer, you can get $100 off when you spend $500. What’s even better is that gift cards are included!
You’ll have to first activate the offer here.
Since I use Amazon and Uber often, I went and purchased gift cards, and the 20% discount ($100) applied when I redeemed 1 point.
There are many other travel gift cards too such as Southwest, Airbnb, and Hotels.com.
Additionally, you can take a look at all of the physical or e-gift cards available.
Bottom Line
This is a great opportunity to buy gift cards, or stock up on household items that you would normally purchase on Amazon anyway (laundry detergent, paper towels, etc.) with a substantial savings.
What are you buying on Amazon today?
Hat Tip: Doctor of Credit
Unless I’m missing something (which is completely possible)…20% off a $400 purchase would be $80. To get the maximum $100 benefit, you’d have to spend $500.
Yes you are absolutely correct. Thanks for pointing this out! I wrote this while in the middle of a BBQ . Happy 4th!
Thank you. Happy 4th to you as well. Hope the BBQ was enjoyable and delicious!
Thanks Angelina – I bought some Airbnb gift cards. Cheers!
Just tried… terms and conditions state “Promotional discount may not be redeemed for Amazon.com Gift Cards or third-party gift cards.”
Seems to have gone through with Starbucks e-gift cards.
Yes and works well with Lyft and Uber as well.
Doesn’t work for any gift cards. Please amend or delete this post.
I was able to purchase $400 Amazon e-gift card & $100 Whole Foods e-gift card on July 3
Just looked at it and it appears they have removed the ability to go the way of gift cards. Did put a physical item in the cart and the 20% was applied. Guess I missed this one.
